The Antwerp Beguinage is one of Antwerp's well-hidden treasures. Many Antwerp residents don't even know that our city has a beguinage. You will find this oasis of tranquility near the busy Ossenmarkt. Here it buzzes with student life during the academic year.
The beguinage was just one of many religious sites in Antwerp when religion was still dominant. This neighbourhood was also home to Capuchins and Jesuits, among others.
Your guide will take you along the traces of the rich past of Ossenmarkt and the Beguinage. He or she will tell you how the Jesuits founded the university campus that defines the look and feel of the neighbourhood today.
Additional information:
- Keep in mind that the Beguinage is a little more difficult to walk in because of the cobblestones.
