The Old Courthouse: history, architecture and justice
IMPORTANT: contact info@antwerpcityguides.eu before booking.
In June 2024, the Court of Appeal and Labour Court with related services moved from Waalse Kaai to the Old Palace of Justice on Britselei. Next to the new courthouse 'Vlinderpaleis' on Bolivarplaats, Antwerp has added a magnificent house of justice after extensive renovation works. From now on the Antwerp assize tribunal is this building.
During the tour, which we will start outside if the weather is dry, we will talk about the origins of this building but also indicate that the return of justice to this place will give a huge boost to the neighbourhood.
Except when the hall is used for assizes or some other activity, we pay a lot of attention to the beautiful decoration in the assize hall. But even if we can't go in there, there are plenty of other fascinating halls to visit.
You will learn about the building's past and present: lovers of contemporary architecture and new sustainable technologies are sure to find what they are looking for.
Justice for all!
