History
Theatre district
The neighbourhood around the impressive Bourla theatre is called Quartier Latin. After all, the 19th-century Bourla theatre was "Le Théâtre Royal Français" for a hundred years.
Nearby you will find other theatres. On Mechelseplein is De Studio. This was once the prestigious drama school Herman Teirlinck. Now it is a cultural centre that houses various companies.
In the Quarter Latin, upscale shopping streets with exclusive fashion and art galleries also have their place. Furthermore, you will find charming green corners and elegant terraces on picturesque squares. In the shadow of the big City Theatre, the Exotic Market takes place on Saturdays and the famous Vogelenmarkt on Sundays.
Additional information:
- On Saturday and Sunday mornings, it is pleasantly crowded here because of the market in Theaterplein. Parking spaces are scarce then.
