Circling around Stadswaag: from merchants to students

Stadswaag is located in Antwerp's vibrant student district.

Originally, merchants walked around here primarily to have their goods weighed. The original weighhouse was wiped off the city map by fire in 1837.

In the 1960s, avant-garde artists found their home here and it became a popular entertainment district. With the expansion of the city campus of Antwerp University and several colleges in the neighbourhood, there are mostly young people living here. Many families have also found a home here.
