Cadix district: from harbour history to modern residential area
The Cadix district is a lesser-known part of the northern Antwerp borough called "Eilandje". In the nineteenth century, the place was a lively port neighbourhood, but with the expansion of the port to the north, the area fell into disrepair from the beginning of the 1960s. Now, thanks to the city's master plan for the "Eilandje", the neighbourhood is coming back to life.
Currently, the Cadix neighbourhood is undergoing a metamorphosis. In fact, the attractive new Schengen Plein has become one of the largest green squares in the city.
Together with your city guide, you will walk across the Park Bridge and be amazed at how quickly a new hospital was built here.
