800 Years of the City of Antwerp: a Journey through time in the City
Eight centuries have passed since Antwerp was granted city rights in 1221.
On this historical walk, you will discover how the city developed in all facets: geographically, economically and administratively. Beautifully restored buildings such as the Steen, the City Hall and the Handelsbeurs bear witness to the city's growth. Why do Antwerpers still speak of "those from across the water"? Where does the idea come from that Antwerpers are 'fat necks'? You will find out that and much more during this walk.
We leave at the Steen, walk through the historic center with the restored City Hall. If accessible, we will pay a short visit to the renovated Handelsbeurs. It will be a fascinating journey through the past with a glimpse of the future. You will definitely be amazed at what this eight hundred year old has to tell.
