Eight centuries have passed since Antwerp was granted city rights in 1221.

On this historical walk, you will discover how the city developed in all facets: geographically, economically and administratively. Beautifully restored buildings such as the Steen, the City Hall and the Handelsbeurs bear witness to the city's growth. Why do Antwerpers still speak of "those from across the water"? Where does the idea come from that Antwerpers are 'fat necks'? You will find out that and much more during this walk.

We leave at the Steen, walk through the historic center with the restored City Hall. If accessible, we will pay a short visit to the renovated Handelsbeurs. It will be a fascinating journey through the past with a glimpse of the future. You will definitely be amazed at what this eight hundred year old has to tell.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes a licensed Antwerp City Guide different?

A licensed Antwerp City Guide has followed specific training, passed exams and is registered with Tourism Flanders. This guarantees a high degree of knowledge, professionalism and reliability. Someone who "just" offers tours does not have this official recognition and the quality can vary greatly.

2. What is the cost of booking an Antwerp city guide?

Costs vary depending on the length of the tour, number of participants (private versus group), languages and any special requests. It is advisable to contact a guide agency or individual guides directly to request a quote. Group tours are usually more economical per person than private tours.
